The Eyota City Council approved the 2012 tax Levy. The Levy is for $561,289. “That’s $25,000 less than last year,” said Mayor Wes Bussell. “We have done a very respectable job of running finances and spending tax dollars,” Bussell said. “And I hope people trust that we are using tax money with all due diligence.” Bussell said they went line-by-line on the budget and reprioritized dollars to get to the $25,000 reduction.
The council voted to approve the new Dover, Eyota, St. Charles Sewer District Agreement. The old agreement ends December 31. According to Bussell the language in the agreement has been cleaned up and is much more understandable. The agreement will be discussed at the December 22 meeting of the sewer district.
The council asked for more information when looking into a request from J.B. and Mandi Mathison for the city to pay damages to their basement caused by water from a water main break. According to Bussell these are tough situations and they have to be careful crossing the legal line. That is why the council decided to take their time, look at it more carefully and discuss it at the next meeting. In other decisions the council decided not to become a member of the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Coalition.
The payment for the West Side Park Bike Path was approved. The $93,926 was approved for payment to Elcor Construction, Inc. The council also approved an increase in dental insurance costs. The increase amounted to five percent.
