Common carp were imported to Minnesota in the late 1800’s and are our first and most damaging invasive species. Now, the Asian carp threaten us from the south. Come hear how the University of Minnesota is using its growing understanding of the common carp to use science to control it. Learn how the university proposes to do the same for the Asian carp with the help of a new aquatic invasive species research center. Dr. Peter Sorensen, Director of the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center will teach us about carp biology, the damage they cause, and the way forward. He will also answer questions about other aquatic invasive species. This talk is part of the Zumbro Watershed Partnership's monthly "Water Ways Speaker Series," 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14, at the Cascade Meadow Wetland and Environmental Science Center, 2900--19th St. NW, Rochester.
