Four candidates will be on the ballot on Tuesday’s special election. Two candidates currently serve of the council, interim council president Randy Staver, and second ward council member Michael Wojcik. Rochester attorney Jeff Thompson, who ran as a write in candidate for the position last fall, will be on the ballot this time around. Newly retired Federal Medical Center employee Jan Throndson, was also a candidate for council president during the election ultimately won by deceased incumbent council president Dennis Hanson, is taking another shot at the position.
Hanson’s victory made this special election necessary. If no candidate receives over half of the vote, the two candidates with the most support will advance to another election at a date to be determined.
