Small Dog Rescue of Minnesota held their Wine and Chocolate Spectacular on Saturday February 23 at Johnny Mango’s Café, drawing more than two hundred supporters and earning the organization more than $3,500 for the cause.
Said volunteer Leah Scholl, “The outpouring of support from the Rochester and surrounding area communities was outstanding. We can’t thank those who attended enough for supporting our mission to rescue and rehabilitate small dogs. We were so pleased with the attendance, food and wine, we can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Tables stocked with Dove Chocolate and over fifty different wines to taste complimented the savory eats from Chef Johnny’s kitchen. The ambiance in the Johnny Mango Event Center is not what you might expect for a space in the strip mall of Hyvee Barlow. Modern art pretties the walls and colored lighting plays tricks on the lines so that the room isn’t such a warehouse square. Plus, Johnny Mango himself with his signature cap is more than welcoming as host.
Bob Sanborn and Driven by Rhythm entertained the crowds of dog-lovers who milled around trading stories not about how they came to own their dogs, but rather, how their dogs came to own them.
Beyond the evening of a swanky and successful gala, the Small Dog Rescue of Minnesota continues their activism on behalf of pet rights in their support of the Dog and Cat Breeders Regulation Bill, a State bill requiring that commercial dog and cat breeders in Minnesota be licensed, get inspected and follow animal care standards. There are currently no laws regulating breeders of dogs and cats in the State of Minnesota. To learn more, visit http://www.speakupmn.org/.
