Upgrades for cable TV administrator

The Chatfield City Council at their February 25 meeting granted two requests submitted by the city’s cable TV administrator, Craig Manahan. Mayor Don Hainlen was absent.
The Personnel Committee and the Cable Access Board had recommended approval of the requests. Manahan will have an increase from a fifty percent full time equivalent position to a two thirds full time position. The upgrade will not result in more wages, but the city will be responsible for more of the cost of his health insurance benefit. Instead of paying half of the premium, the city will now pay two thirds of the premium. At the current rates this will be an increase cost for the city of $127 per month or a total cost of $506 per month. Manahan noted in a letter that he is already working enough hours per week to qualify for the two-thirds time.
Manahan has upgraded his phone to a smartphone from a simple flip phone. The city has been covering 80 percent of the cost of the phone or about $43 per month. The upgrade will now cost the city $75 per month. Manahan estimates that 90 to 95 percent of the phone use is associated with work.
Other Business in Brief
•A report from the Minnesota Department of Health detailing results of a survey of Chatfield’s public water supply found no coliform bacteria. No deficiencies were observed in pumps, facilities and controls and none in treatment. City Clerk Joel Young stated that the public system was in pretty good shape.
•Wastewater treatment plant superintendent Darryl Haner presented five bids to perform annual preventative maintenance pump inspections (13 pumps). The council approved the low quote from Quality Flow, Inc. at the annual cost of $900. Haner had noted that Quality Flow held the city’s current contract and that they have provided good service over the past five years. A new contract will be for the next five years.
•A resolution of support was adopted for a federal grant application to improve the ATV trailhead. The application will be made to the Minnesota DNR for the Federal Recreation Trail Program. Chatfield Trails, Inc. has the $1,000 in matching funds for the project. The money, if awarded, is to be used for building a three-sided shelter and to improve the parking lot east of town along Highway 74. The city will serve only as the fiscal agent for the project.
•Young noted that the Chatfield School District will have the Senior Class Raffle on December 6.
•Monday April 22, 2013, through Thursday April 25, 2013, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. are the dates and times for the meeting of the Board of Appeal and Equalization for the city of Chatfield in the Fillmore County Assessor’s Office.
April 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. is the date for the meeting of the Board of Appeal and Equalization at the Olmsted County Government Center, Conference Room 2. Meetings are by appointment.
•Darryl Costello was appointed to the Cable Access Board for a term ending January 31, 2016.
