The Rochester Area Foundation is pleased to welcome Paul Harkess to our staff as a Development Officer. He will play an integral role in shaping the relationship between the Foundation, our Donors and the greater Rochester community.
Paul Harkess comes to the Rochester Area Foundation after a thirty-two-year career in development specializing in building relationships with donors and gift planning. He served as Director of the Estate Affairs Program at Union College (Schenectady, NY), Director of Major Gift Programs at Harvard Medical School, Vice-Chairman for Institutional Advancement at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and from 1996-2012 at the Mayo Clinic where he retired as the Principal Gifts Officer.
“I am pleased to work with the staff and volunteers of the Rochester Area Foundation. We plan on building awareness and support for the Foundation’s mission of service to the Rochester area community and the charities that serve others here,” Harkess said. “The Foundation is a strong leader in this region across a broad spectrum of activities and I am proud to be associated with the organization.”
Harkess is a past president of the Southern Minnesota Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and currently serves on the boards of Ronald McDonald House of Rochester and NAMI Southeastern Minnesota and the Board of Trustees of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area. He served on the board of the Rochester Area Foundation from 1999-2008. He holds his undergraduate degree from Indiana University (Bloomington) and an MBA from Union Graduate College.
“We are happy to welcome Paul to our staff,” said RAF President JoAnn Stormer. “The depth of his experience in philanthropy is outstanding. We are very grateful that he will be bringing his expertise to the Rochester Area Foundation. We are focused on creating a strong giving environment in the community; building awareness of philanthropy and working with individuals, corporations and organizations. Paul will be an enormous asset to this cause.”
About the Rochester Area Foundation. Since 1944, the Rochester Area Foundation has partnered with donors to improve the quality of life, promote greater equality of opportunities, and develop effective methods to assist those in need in the greater Rochester area.
