State Sen. David Senjem (R-Rochester) introduced a bill (SF-91) in the Senate Transportation Committee which would require Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to periodically examine all tracts or lots of real property belonging to the state under its control or supervision. To determine whether any may be declared as surplus, and to determine whether such property is suitable for sale or disposal. Surplus is defined as property no longer needed for state highway purposes, or which has not been used for state highway purposed for 5 years. MnDOT must report its findings to the legislature by March 1 of each even numbered year.

“Over the years MnDOT has acquired what in aggregate is a significant amount of land which serves no useful purpose,” said Senator David Senjem. “This bill will put much of this land on the tax-rolls and put money in the bank for MnDOT’s future road improvements.”

State Senator Dave Senjem encourages and appreciates constituent input, and can be reached at 651-296-3903 or toll free 888-509-7627 by mail at 113 State Office Building, St. Paul, MN 55155, or via email at sen.david.senejm@senate.mn.
