Adourn will “funk your junk”

A new boutique has arrived on Main Street in Chatfield, Minn. that has many people excited to “funk their junk.” The name of the store is Adourn {furniture rehab} and is located at 218 Main Street in Chatfield. The store is filled with old furniture that has been given a new look, as well as many other items of interest.
The store began operations on November 1, 2012, by owner Melissa Wood. Melissa says that she loves to “find old furniture and give it new life,” which makes it a unique piece that will stand out among others. Melissa was working in interior design in Minneapolis, Minn. and when she moved back to this area she was doing furniture rehab out of her house. When it got to be too much in her home, Melissa felt she needed a larger space.
The new building is not only larger but is also quite a wonderful space with tall ceilings, wood floors, and brick walls. Adourn has many one-of-a-kind items on display from larger pieces of furniture to smaller details such as dishtowels and jewelry. The display items are put together in very crafty ways which can create a person to meander through the store for a long period and lose track of time.
The way Melissa describes how she brings in inventory is by “going to market,” which means that she goes to specialized markets selling the items she is looking for to fill the floor and walls of her business. She has recently attended a market in Minneapolis and hopes to attend another in New York in the near future.
Melissa also does a lot of custom projects for people, which has brought her additional business. Photographs of many of Melissa’s projects can be found on the store’s website www.adourn.blogspot.com. When asked if she has had support from the community Melissa is quick to answer, “It’s been awesome,” and adds that she has been really busy.
Melissa’s plans for Adourn’s future are to “continue to do what I do,” and she also may start having classes such as “funk your junk” or “girls night out” to give people a chance to work on projects themselves while enjoying the company of others. Adourn held its first “ladies night” on Saturday, January 26, 2013, and which had a henna tattoo artist come in and paint designs on attendees. This is “a fun evening with your girlfriends to do something a little different,” as Adourn’s website describes the evening.
