Eyota City Council delays ambulance building decision

The Eyota City Council postponed a decision on where to put the new ambulance building. The council will review the options and have more discussion at the work meeting Thursday, January 31. No decisions can be made at the meeting, but it will be an opportunity to look at the options in more detail.
The two options being considered are to build the building away from downtown on land near the Eyota Market or connect to the fire hall. Concerns were raised about the fire hall structure and the ability to expand the fire hall in the future if necessary. The council also wants to get input from Mike Bubany, city financial advisor, on the different financing options.
“There is no problem in delaying our plans so the fire hall can be evaluated,” said Chris Arendt, Eyota Ambulance Director. “We are willing to do what is necessary for you to get the answers to your questions.”
The City of Eyota and surrounding townships all contribute to the ambulance service. Because the City of Eyota is the largest contributor, the ambulance service is asking them for help with the bonding process to cover the expense of building. The ambulance service is a 501C3 nonprofit organization.
“We would like to make sure we meet your needs, and with all due respect you would look at our needs too,” Arendt said to the council. According to Mayor Tyrel Clark, no matter what the decision on the ambulance service building, the fire hall will have to be updated some time in the near future.
The council approved a new sign ordinance that will allow businesses located along the highways to have more signage. Businesses will be able to have signs 40 feet in the air. The point is to allow outlying commercial properties to have more signage visible from multiple directions.
Employees of Eyota will be saving some money on dental insurance. The group will save about $1,200 by switching to Denali Dental Insurance.
