Residents of Oronoco can expect big improvements on MN Avenue, County 118 and other streets, curbs and gutters in the area. Oronoco City Council met January 15 to plan out these changes to city roads. The County will be funding the project.

Council members set a date for a public informational meeting about changes to streets at City Hall on February 20, 7:00 pm. An engineer will be explaining expected changes and showing how they will affect the city.

The big changes to streets come along with Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Highway 52 project. According to the Department, the project, “includes the modification and realignment of the Hwy 52 bridges over I-94 and re-decking of the Hwy 52 bridges south of the Mississippi River.”

Council members also approved two software purchases toward improving city function efficiency. One program will make note-taking and clerical labor more efficient. The software records audio and turns it into written text. The other program, iamresponding, will save time in emergency responses. The cost was $345 for the city.

Part of the $2000 donation from Oronoco Gold Rush Days toward the Oronoco County Park given in December will be used towards a new sign, inviting residents and visitors into the natural area.

Oronoco Gas & Co’s applications for Tobacco License, Gambling License and 3.2 content Off Sale Alcohol were approved.
