ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is seeking members to fill six positions on a new Minnesota Dairy Research, Teaching and Consumer Education Authority. Authorized by Minnesota Statute, the nine-member Dairy Authority will advise the Commissioner of Agriculture, the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU) about the design, development and operation of a new dairy research, teaching and consumer education facility.
Members from the following categories or sectors are needed:
Two persons currently engaged in the business of operating a dairy; two representatives of Minnesota based businesses actively engaged in working with or serving Minnesota’s dairy industry; one representative of a state trade association that represents the interests of milk producers; and, one member of the agricultural education faculty of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU).
Applicants must be residents of Minnesota and be willing to serve a four year term.
Three other members of the Authority will include a member of the Minnesota Division of the Dairy Council, a Dean of the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), and the Commissioner of Agriculture.
Vacancies on the Dairy Authority will be filled through the state's open appointments process. The application form is available online at http://www.sos.state.mn.us (click the Open Commissions/Appointments icon) or by calling the Secretary of State's office at 877-551-6767. Applicants should specify the category/sector they represent and submit a cover letter with their applications. The deadline to apply is August 27, 2012.
Members will be appointed by Governor Dayton in consultation with Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson.
