No surprises from Dover annual audit

CPA John Wolter from Wolter & Raak, Ltd. reported on Dover’s 2011 annual audit. “There were no difficulties with the audit, no disagreement with management and no alarming journal entries,” according to Wolter. “Accounting standards changed from last year so looking from one year to the next there are differences,” Wolter said.

For example, fund balance wording has changed. Wolter requested money be transferred in and out of funds to get it reported in the correct area. “A CD that was put into a wrong fund two years ago came due and when it was cashed in had to be put back into the correct fund,” said Mayor Roger Ihrke. The city showed ending fund balances of $556,689. Of that total, $274,359 is in the unreserved fund balance. The unreserved fund is money available for spending at the City’s discretion.

The Dover City Council announced there are two positions open for election this year plus the Mayor’s position. People interested in running for the positions have until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14 to file. The council members are elected to a four-year term. Teresa Hackler and Jerome Dyba hold the two positions open for election.

The County Road 10 project will begin August 6. Trees are being removed currently in preparation for the project. The council also set a time for a public hearing at their next meeting, Thursday, September 6 to review a request from Geoff Griffin for a proposed one unit housing lot. The council also voted unanimously to renew the RoadTrip Bar and Grill’s request to stay open until 2 a.m.

The Eyota Ambulance Service is looking for funds to invest in a new ambulance shed. Because Dover is served by Eyota Ambulance, there was discussion about what to do. The issue is complicated because Dover is served by two ambulance services, Eyota and St. Charles. The state medical board sets the boundaries and County Road 10 that runs through Dover is the boundary line.

“The difference is the growth has been on the east side (of Dover) so most houses are in the St. Charles District,” Ihrke said. “They split the townships the same way and it splits Dover Township in half.”

No action was taken.
