The Eyota City Council entertained a request from the Eyota Volunteer Fire Department for more radios.
The city council approved the purchase of six Motorola radios, five for the fire department and one for the city. The cost of six radios is approximately $13,000. Two of the six are budgeted equipment. The current purchase price includes a special offer by Motorola reducing the cost by $200 per radio. “We only have 10 radios right now,” said City Councilman Tony Nelson. “The more radios the better. Even during down times having the radio available in case of emergencies is important.” The current number of radios is a safety concern.
The number of kids involved in the summer recreation program requires more staff. The council approved hiring Sam Callahan as summer recreation employee. Marlis Knowlton, Eyota Clerk/Treasurer, has been selected to the Southern Rail Corridor Feasibility Alternatives Analysis Study Project Advisory Committee.
The Project Advisory Committee is made up of 20 members from businesses, community leaders, local neighborhoods and other interested organizations. The committee will assist in decision-making and facilitate communications with their represented communities and agencies. The Southern Rail Corridor is a planning project evaluating the need to relocate an existing railroad line to accommodate a potential increase in train traffic and to address safety concerns with the rail route.
