ROCHESTER, MN - May 1, 2012 - In honor of Armed Forces Day (May 15), local brain training center LearningRx is offering free cognitive skills assessments to all soldiers and their immediate family members.
“Our initial brain skills assessment precisely measures which cognitive skills require strengthening,” explains Jennifer Beyst, Executive Director of Learning-Rx Brain Training Center of Rochester. “For a child with ADHD, the weakest cognitive skill is usually attention. For someone with reading struggles, it might be auditory processing. For someone with a traumatic brain injury, it is often memory. Once we know the weakest skills, we provide one-on-one training using targeted and intense exercises and timed drills to strengthen those brain skills and rebuild connections in the brain.”
According to Beyst until the 1990s, scientists thought the brain was stagnant; that is, incapable of change. “We now know that the brain is capable of change at any age, and that intensive one-on-one brain training can treat the root cause of learning struggles,” she says. “Brain training does for the brain what physical exercise does for the body.”
