On a cold and rainy Saturday, Dr. Dave Thompson, superintendent of Stewartville School, led a team of twenty volunteers that were working on the Stewartville Habitat for Humanity house.

“We declared April 30 as ‘Habitat for Humanity’ day at our schools,” Thompson said. He and the volunteers were framing a garage wall and leveling the basement floor to prepare it for pouring concrete.

“This five-bedroom, split-entry home will house a large family with several children in our district,” Thompson said.

Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian ministry that welcomes to its work all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has built, rehabilitated, repaired or improved more than 400,000 houses worldwide, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than two million people.
