Pastor Benjamin Paul Kempfert was ordained Sunday, August 7, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Oronoco, MN where he will be serving as new minister. He replaced Paul Baldauf, who recently retired and now resides in Wisconsin with his wife, Gloria.
Kempfert was born in Watertown, WI to Lowell and Carol Kempfert. He attended Luther Preparatory School and Martin Luther College before Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. His vicar year, 2008-2009, was spent at the dual parish of Christ/St. John’s Lutheran Churches in Eagle River and Phelps, WI. During this year he married Erin Peek, who majored in theatre at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN.
Ben graduated from the Seminary in May 2010 and worked as a counselor at a halfway house. In July of that year, the Kempfert’s daughter, Margaret Evelyn, whom they call Gretchen, was born.
Ben enjoys reading and writing. He has great interest in literature and history, especially that of the Ancient Near East, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. His musical tastes extend to classical, sacred, jazz, and classic rock.
Pastor Dean Gunn, of Our Savior Ev. Lutheran Church of Kasson, MN, served as Liturgist for the ceremony, with Pastor James Heir of Resurrecion and Life Ev. Lutheran Church of Rochester, MN, giving the sermon. Kempfert was welcomed into fold by other pastors from Rochester, Redwing, and Austin.
Many of Pastor Kempfert’s family members attended Sunday’s services. The day’s activities concluded with luncheon provided by Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church members.
