Eyota Ambulance Service getting biddable design for building

The Eyota Ambulance Service is moving forward with architectural plans for a new building. The plans would provide a biddable design. The ambulance service has approached the Eyota City Council about authorizing a general obligation bond to finance the building. The initial cost of the bulding was placed at approximately $500,000. The city council asked the ambulance service to get a more accurate and economical cost. The cost to have the plans developed is $14,000 but could be more depending on the cost of the building.
The ambulance service may look at using volunteers to complete parts of the building construction to reduce construction costs. “They are trying to keep it as economical as possible,” said Mayor Tyrel Clark. The city council will meet with the city’s financial advisor, Mike Bubany, to learn more about financing and bonding. They will meet with Bubany Tuesday, March 26 to discuss the ambulance building, land purchases, capital improvements and to develop an understanding of bonding.
Councilman Tony Nelson stressed concern about kids walking across ice in flooded areas of the city. According to Nelson the areas have moving water under the ice and the ice is thin. The Westside Park area is a major concern.
The Eyota City Council approved a stipend for members of the Park Board. The board members will be paid $25.00 per meeting starting April 1, 2013. The council felt justified to offer a stipend because of the significant amount of time board members dedicate to service at meetings and outside of meetings. The Planning Board stipend was put on hold to allow more time for discussion with Fred Suhler, the city’s attorney. The planning board stipend is more complicated because the board was established by ordinance and is governed by state statute.
