Park Board Chair Kevin Kullot spoke to the board at Thursday night’s council meeting and expressed concern about the declining numbers of participants in this summer’s Park and Rec program.

“We currently have 137 activities planned for the summer,” Kullot said. “This is down from 226 last year.” With 180 Eyota children currently enrolled in the program, Kullot hopes more will apply as the deadline approaches. With the decline in numbers, Kullot expects to hand out an end-of-th- year survey in the fall allowing parents to voice opinions ensuring continuation of the program.

More than $1,200 has been raised through the fund raising efforts of the Park and Rec board. This money will be used to install new polycap fencing for all three ball fields in the city.

A total of $1.5 will be allocated towards different bike trail projects throughout the state from a grant program offered by Mn/DOT. The city will be applying for the Mn/DOT grant in the coming weeks to continue the trail from Carolann Street NW to Second Street SW. Applying for the grant program will require more studies and engineering reports which may cost the city $7,000. The city plans to ask Mn/DOT for 50 percent or 75 percent of the $54,000 estimated construction costs if the grant is approved.

The project is a continuation of more than 40 miles of existing bike trails in the area.
