BYRON, Minnesota—When Christ Lutheran Church wanted to raise funds for their upcoming 50th anniversary celebration, they decided to publish and sell a custom cookbook. Filled with delicious recipes from current and past church members, the book is now available for purchase at a cost of $15.
The spiral-bound book was printed by G&R Publishing and features eight categories of tried and true recipes, including canning, slower cooker, quick dishes and gluten-free sections. Whether the recipes are treasured family keepsakes or new favorites, all of the dishes in Celebrating 50 Years of Christ Lutheran Church 1963-2013 reflect the love of good cooking. A recipe for Popcorn Salad from Mary Tweite and Carol Holum is included below.
The Fiftieth Anniversary Committee spearheaded the cookbook project, with Jim Gronvold and JoAnn Brooks as the co-chairs. They chose the Cookbook project to help pay the costs of the celebration on 29 September 2013.
Besides the fantastic recipes, an added benefit to the cookbook is its historical value. With photos and a look back at the past 50 years, the book celebrates church and faith. Jim Gronvold says, “We enjoyed the project and were happy with the format of being an historical cookbook for our fiftieth anniversary.”
Cookbooks will be sold at the church, at various places around the Byron community or by contacting Jim Gronvold by phone (507-775-6314) or email (Jimd.gronvold@yahoo.com ). An order form is also available at the back of the book for mail orders.
