The funeral service for Marjorie V. Bernard, 89, a longtime rural Chatfield,Mn. resident will be at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday (May 8, 2012) at the First Baptist Church in Stewartville with Rev. Chad Skaran officiating. Burial will be in Cummingsville Cemetery in rural Chatfield,Mn. Mrs. Bernard died Wednesday (May 2, 2012) of natural causes at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where she had been a patient for 2 days.
Marjorie Virginia Bernard was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Fillmore County,Minnesota to Jacob and Susanna(Kester) Manning. She grew up in the Spring Valley area, attended rural school and Spring Valley schools. She was employed for a few years as a nanny and housekeeper. Marjorie was married on April 16, 1949 at the United Brethren Church in Spring Valley to Bert M. Bernard. Following their marriage the couple moved to the Bernard Family farmstead where they farmed for many years, raised their family and continued to make their home. Mrs. Bernard was a farmwife and homemaker and after her children were grown was employed part-time as a house keeper in Rochester. Mr. Bernard was a lifelong farmer and was also employed at Seneca Foods in Rochester . He died on May 23, 2010. Mrs. Bernard was a longtime member and active volunteer at the First Baptist Church in Stewartville and enjoyed reading, bird watching,flower gardening, listening to old time Gospel music and time spent with her family.
Surviors include three daughters - Linda Napolean of Mason,Tx./ Judith Bernard of Rochester and Betty Lou Bernard of Chatfield/ 4 grandchildren –Susan(Todd) Napolean, Carrie(Judah) Keenan,Amy Napolean and Jennifer(Steve) Hemminger/ 5 great-grandchildren - Isaiah and Ethan Hemminger, Alesandra and Jude Keenan and Tristan Napolean/ two sisters - Alma Abolt of Rochester and Susie Halstead of Mobile,Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband Bert, her parents, a sister and five brothers.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday afternoon at the church.
