At its regular meeting, the Board of Directors of United Way of Olmsted County adopted on Tuesday a statement supporting the proposal to establish a Destination Medical Center [DMC] in the city of Rochester. “We believe DMC holds great promise for the healing mission of Mayo Clinic and the well-being of the people of the city of Rochester,” the statement reads.
“The great challenge the promise of DMC brings,” the statement continues, “is for its partners to embrace the commitments required to ensure that this bold undertaking advances not only private interests and public visions, but also the common good.” Regarding DMC, United Way of Olmsted County is especially interested in issues related to family-sustaining employment. The statement supports the proposal as coming at “the right place and the right time” to create opportunities for all to share “in opportunities for family-sustaining employment, the education this employment requires, and the well-being this employment makes possible.”
United Way of Olmsted County asks that the public and private parties now involved in the deliberative process resolve the legislative elements necessary for the appropriate funding of the DMC proposal under an authority that is transparent, accountable, and inclusive of the broad interests of the diverse community in which DMC will reside.
