Remembrance and benefit of our Veterans

On May 29th at 6:00 PM at the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial, the family of CPL Curtis M Swenson, along with the Marine Corps League Foundation Thor Detachment, will have a short program to present scholarships of $1000 each to two Mayo High School students for educational purposes. One senior and one alumni have been selected. Curtis, a 2007 May High School graduate, entered the Marine Corps and served in Iraq and Afghanistan before being killed in action on April 2, 2010. His future plans had included college.

Funds for college scholarships are raised and have been raised by a golf tournament hosted by the Swenson family. The third annual Cpl Curtis M Swenson Golf Benefit will take place at Willow Creek Golf Course on Saturday, June, 1 2013.

Registration starts at 10:30, a program of remembrance at 11:30 and shot gun start at 12:00. The program will also feature a silent and live auction at 6:00 PM. Many auction items are available. Dinner and auction results start at 6:00. A fee of $90 per person includes golf, cart and dinner. The public is welcome for dinner for $20. Donations not only support the CPL Curtis M Swenson Memorial Scholarship, but help local veterans, active military and their families.

Contributions are also accepted to the CPL Curtis M Swenson Memorial Fund through Think Bank or directly to the family, 290 8 Rose Dr SE, Rochester, MN 55904.
